first time ever posting When i right click a program, and use "open with.." i get an error message!!! help or after right clicking If i have the option with an arrow to "open with" it will show a some programs which is fine but if i select "choose default program....." it gives me the same error message. this is the message i get.... "this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. please install a program or , if one is already installed, create an association in the default programs control panel" the only thing i can think of is i installed a program on my comp call "Ccleaner" it really messed up some stuff. any help would be greatly appreciated! thx

Are you able to run these programs by double-clicking on their icons? Does the same happens when you right click any other file type? If this only happens with programs: Usually, programs (.exe) doesn't have open with lists you may clear it out by following the registry keys HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.exe HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\.exe HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\SystemFileAssociations\.exe HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\PropertySystem\PropertyHandlers\.exe Delete any thing that says OpenWith, OpenWithProgIds or OpenWithList http://www.cesabarre.com/

hey thanks for reply! I am able to run the applications fine by double clicking, and when i open a file by right clicking i can open it with another program. just when i try to "open with..." or "choose defalt progam...." it gives me an error. can you explain what i need to do with those locations you gave me.... i thinking you want me to go in to regedit command in run and delete anything that says openwith.... right?? but only w/ in your locations you gave me.. sorry im trying my best to be productive and i really appreciate your time to help me ;)

you're welcome! then its not a problem at all, you do openwith only to files so that you can open such files with a particular program you like. For programs normally they are not supposed to be opend by other programs. Usually when you right click a program there is no openwith but yours does have, you may just leave it there or you may remove it from the registry locations above.http://www.cesabarre.com/
